BANGALORE: The Kannada translation of ‘Understanding Chemistry’, a book authored by eminent scientist Prof  C N R Rao, intended to introduce Chemistry to school students and those interested in science, was released in Bangalore on Monday. The book, titled ‘Raasaayana Shastrada Arivu’, brought out Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat, has been translated to Kannada by Prof Indumati Rao, Coordinator at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Science and Research (JNCASR).

Speaking on the occasion, Prof C N R Rao said, “I have enjoyed teaching Chemistry to young people even though I have not done so in quite a while. Most people don’t like Chemistry, however.” Prof Indumati Rao said that another book for children might be in the horizon. “Last year, which was the year of Chemistry, Prof Rao went all over the country delivering lectures to students. We will be transcribing it. This is one more step to portray scientists as people,” she added.

Refusing to comment on the plagiarism issue, Prof Rao said, “I have had enough of the media.” Prof C N R Rao, Honourary President of JNCASR, P  Balaram of Indian Institute of Science and Prof M R S Rao, President of the JNCASR, were present on the occasion.
