BANGALORE: With the State Government gearing up to implement the Right to Education (RTE) Act from 2013, the Karnataka Knowledge Commission (KKC) is preparing to constitute a Mission Group to focus on training and education of teachers in the context of RTE.

The Mission Group, which will start functioning in about a week’s time, will look at teacher education and the subsequent role that they will play once the Act comes into effect.  “In the context of RTE, we recognise teachers as very important agents. The Mission Group will try to identify the right method of training that the teachers need,” said Prof M K Sridhar, Member Secretary and Executive Director, KKC.

Members of the Mission Group will interact with teachers from various districts to identify their needs, expectations and problems. This data will then be analysed. “Since teachers are the main component in RTE, we will analyse their feedback to determine what kind of training they should undergo in the backdrop of RTE,” he said. Prof Sridhar further said that a Change Management Team (CMT) will be set up to ascertain the role institutions in the school education arena (DSERT, DIETs and so on) would play.
