Operation without general anaesthesia

BANGALORE: Guruswamy, 55-year-old man, who was suffering from chest pain and multiple blockages in three arteries was operated without general anaesthesia at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.

Professor and HOD of cardiology at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Dr C N Manjunath said that the patient was suffering from multiple blockages in three arteries and pulmonary tuberculosis which resulted in lung complications. Hence, he was subjected to bypass surgery on epidural spinal anaesthesia without ventilator.

“Throughout the operation, the patient was conscious and did not feel any pain. He was also listening to the conversations of the surgical team,” added Dr Manjunath.
