Dividing by 5
Dividing a large number by five is actually very simple. All you do is multiply by 2 and move the decimal point:
1. 195 ÷ 5
Step 1: 195 x 2 = 390
Step 2: Move the decimal point one place backward – 39.0
39 is the answer
2. 2978 ÷ 5
Step 1: 2978 x 2 = 5956
Step 2: 595.6
595.6 is the answer
So what we are doing is doubling the given number and then dividing it by 10.
Assorted Multiplication Rules:

To multiply by 45:
Multiply by 50 and subtract 5 times the original number (which will be your answer from the first step without the 0 at the end)
To multiply by 90:
Multiply by 9 (as above) and put a zero on the right
To multiply by 98:
Multiply by 100 and subtract twice the original number.
To multiply by 99:
Multiply by 100 and subtract the original number.
