Chiropractic treatments are popular abroad and though it is not unheard of in India, it still has a long way to go. Today, many chiropractic clinics have come up in Bangalore which have doctors from different parts of the world, except India! Its existence for years affirms the fact that it is time that the demand for a chiropractic college in India should be met soon.
Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system. A dysfunction in one of the vertebrae of the spine will lead to reduced or impinged nerve flow and a chiropractor uses a variety of techniques to determine which vertebrae or joint is misaligned.
The managing director of Bangalore Chiropractic and Wellness Clinics, Rupa Jude says, "We have been fighting for a institute for imparting training on chiropractic methods for a long time. We have been holding many educative sessions on the benefits of chiropractic methods to create awareness. Today, we employ doctors from US, UK and Russia."
Agreeing to the fact that unlike conventional medicines, Chiropractic techniques have a long way to go, she adds, "Due to the availability of information and strong online presence, awareness is growing."
Dr Nicholas Jason, Chiropractic Physician from USA and working in Dr Spine Chiropractic clinic says, "In US more and more people are seeking alternative forms of treatment for most diseases and disorders. Especially natural remedies, which are non-invasive and drug free.
Thus chiropractic is the preferred medical treatment for migraine neck and back pain, disc bulge, sciatica, nerve compression besides headaches and migraines. The response so far in Bangalore has been good."
Chiropractor techniques includes postural analysis, range of motion tests, orthopaedic tests, muscle and reflex testing, Xray/MRI analysis, sensory analysis and instrumentation to determine precisely, at which level or levels, the dysfunction is taking place.
Once the misaligned vertebra or vertebrae are located, a manual/instrumental adjustment will be delivered to the joint to properly align the vertebra and restore proper nerve flow.
Chiropractors undergo a rigorous course load that can only begin after an undergraduate degree has been obtained. They focus on all of the subjects a MD must learn including Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Neurology, Biochemistry etc.
They begin evaluating the spine from day one using several techniques to determine where a misaligned vertebra is and the best technique to correct it.
To become a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic, one must pass all respective classes in the curriculum and see a specified number of patients under the guise of a licensed Chiropractic physician.
