The BBMP will start a campaign to control the spread of dengue disease in the city from Tuesday.
Six hundred nursing students who were trained to check larvae breeding and source reduction last week will visit houses in BBMP wards to create awareness about the deadly disease.
“Last week we trained nursing students for two full days and have now dispatched them in groups. Three students, along with a junior health inspector of BBMP’s Health Department, will monitor inspection in each ward. The students will inform the public about dengue, its characteristics and will advise the people to clear coconut shells, tea cups, covering the water tank as dengue thrives in fresh water,” BBMP’s Chief Health Officer Devaki Umesh said.
Some students have already started this work, but it will officially start from Tuesday, she added.
The BBMP and the Health and Family Welfare Department appealed to the people to cooperate in this regard. “We want the public to support us when we are doing some good work. Students, especially girls, may feel insecure if the atmosphere is hostile. We appeal public not to harass to them as it may hamper the drive,” Director of the Health Department Dhanya Kumar said.
The BBMP has 198 wards. Bangalore East and Mahadevapura zones which are facing water shortage have reported more suspected cases. Two deaths have been reported from Mahadevapura zone.
