BBMP's Stand on Stadium Work Sought

Express News Service

The High Court on Monday directed BBMP to clarify why it started work on constructing a stadium on Jayanagar ground when a writ petition, challenging the construction, is pending before the court.

The Jayanagar Sports Association has filed a PIL requesting the court to direct the BBMP to make alterations to the proposed Kittur Rani Chennamma Stadium being constructed at a cost of `4 crore. The petitioner contended that the plan is not in accordance with prescribed standards, adding that though the height of the stadium should be around 10 metres, the BBMP has issued a contract to construct a seven-meter-high stadium.

The Division Bench comprising chief justice D H Waghela and Justice S N Sathyanarayana directed the BBMP to justify the construction.
