Political power is crucial for the development of oppressed class, said CM Siddaramaiah. He was speaking at an event to commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of dalit activist Prof B Krishnappa on Thursday.

The CM said Krishnappa had the vision like Babasahib Ambedkar to change the society and the system. “Unfortunately, like Babasahib even Krishnappa found it difficult to fight elections because of the system,” he said.

He said Congress came to power in the state as people from all communities voted for it. Defending his decision on schemes announced soon after he assumed charge, he said those were pro-poor programmes and it is not right to criticise them.
