The state government will deploy Mobile Testing Units to collect and test blood samples in rural and hilly areas as a measure to diagnose and treat dengue, Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader said on Thursday.

“We have asked officials not to waste time waiting for people to come for blood tests. After the mobile units have collected and tested the blood samples, district health officers will monitor the platelet counts,” he said.

Khader was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a one-day seminar on ‘Major Health Issues: Symptoms, Diagnosis and Cure’ organised by Bangalore University’s Department of Sericulture/Life Science on Jnana Bharathi campus.

Measures to control mosquito breeding should have started six months ago, he said. “We will start preparing for next April in the following six months to control breeding of mosquitoes.”

Support for BU Health Centre

Khader visited the university’s health centre and took the officials to task for “unsystematic arrangements” for students and faculty.

Students complained to Khader that the centre does not have injections or other medical necessities. Niveditha told Khader that the centre procures medicines worth `1 lakh every month. “Then how come you don’t have a single injection in your inventory?” Khader questioned.

Khader assured the VC that he will take steps to ensure the health centre is functional 24 hours and that one 108 ambulance will be given to the university.

Commenting on Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni allegedly slapping a doctor in Hubli for his perceived negligence, Minister Khader said it was wrong for the MLA to have done that.
