Traditional designs are in vogue this season

Jewellery stores in the city are gearing up for the big day, Akshaya Tritiya, when people will especially buy some gold in the hope of having a prosperous year ahead. Jewellers, big and small, hit big time with a surge in demand for gold in various forms - coins, bangles, chains, rings and many more.

Regional marketing manager of Joyalukkas, Sudheesh S says, “Around this time of the year, gold prices are  low.  Some buyers would like to take advantage of that. There are those who buy gold just for the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. They prefer  small gold coins and bangles. This year, we have brought in 70 per cent more stock than usual.  Most people go for traditional designs and the trend too seems to be for traditional temple jewellery.”

The practice of pre-booking jewellery pieces seems to have caught on. Those who do so will collect their purchases on Akshaya Tritiya.  The trend seems to be the same in other leading jewellery stores across Bangalore, such as Navrathan Jewellers on MG Road where a lot of people request for simple traditional jewellery.

Even when buying diamonds, simple designs are what seem to be preferred by shoppers this year.
