Express News Service

The South Western Railway (SWR) was awarded the ‘Best Construction Unit’ among the 16 zones of the Indian Railways.

SWR is receiving the award for the first time since its establishment 10 years ago— for exceeding the targets set by the board, utilising the funds within the stipulated time, and providing best quality construction in the projects it has undertaken.

SWR chief administrative officer Adesh Sharma said, “The Railway Board had given us a target to lay 96 km of railway lines in the previous financial year. We have laid 119 km of new lines and were successful in convincing the Railway Board and the state government to release more funds than what were sanctioned in the budget to achieve that.”

The South Western Railway construction unit was given a trophy and a citation at a function orgainsed by the Railway Board in New Delhi recently.
