Multiplication (Vertical and Crosswise)

We have learned many methods of multiplication, most of them used for special numbers, like duplex or near a base. But there is a method that works for all numbers. This is the vertical and crosswise method, to multiply any two numbers. First let us look at multiplication of two-digit numbers.

The specialty of this method is that we get the answer in a single step unlike the traditional method which takes three operations. The steps:

• First multiply the units digits vertically.

• Next multiply the digits crosswise and add the answers.

• Multiply the tens digits vertically.

Example: 12 x 32

Multiply the units digits vertically

Multiply cross wise and add

Step:3 Multiply the tens digits vertically

Answer: 384

67 x 23

Answer: 1541

43 x 56

Answer: 2408

Tricky triangle

Use the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 in the circles to get a total of 9 along all the three sides. You can also try to get a total of 10 along all the three sides.
