At the end of the Bangalore University postgraduate admissions, there are around 1,800 seats still lying vacant in the University’s departments and affiliated colleges.
Vice-Chancellor Prof B Thimme Gowda said on Saturday that while economics, physics, chemistry and mathematics found a lot of takers, the demand for biotechnology and microbiology continued to remain low this year. “As many as 490 seats are lying vacant in MSc biotechnology and 225 in MSc microbiology,” Gowda said.
According to him, all the vacant seats are in colleges affiliated to the university. “The respective departments in the varsity are full. There are also 70 vacant seats in MSc statistics,” he said.
Gowda said there was a high demand for courses in commerce stream this year. “We had 922 seats for commerce, for which we received 2,716 applications. There are no seats remaining,” he said. However, vacancies for other commerce stream courses are as follows: Master of International Business (276), Master of Tourism and Administration (129) and Master of Finance and Accounting (56).
