BANGALORE: On August 15, Humara Movie, a three year old Mumbai-based company, theatrically released a short film anthology that comprises eight short films made by first time directors, in association with PVR Director's Rare.
Titled Shuruaat Ka Interval, the short film festival began in four cities: Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Chennai. City Express caught up with Vinay Mishra, the co-founder of Humara Movie to find out more.
"It only seemed like a reasonable transition for us to launch Shuruaat, after all the work we've done in the short film space. There's this huge market opening up for content. Not all of it makes money, but there is an audience, surely. And there are two kinds of audiences, the ones who pay money and watch it and then the film-making community themselves who want to watch varied content. We felt that this was an appropriate time for something like Shuruaat to happen in India," says Vinay.
The eight filmmakers were chosen and mentored by filmmakers Imtiaz Ali, Vikramaditya Motwane, Anand Gandhi and Vikas Bahl.
All the films are based on one theme: ‘Interval’, which has been interpreted in various manners by the film-makers. They have also taken great pains to keep it genre agnostic, so the filmmakers can test their creative abilities. So while one movie talks about a struggling actor, another revolves around the life of a man who guards a railway crossing.
The HM team produce about eight to nine short films a month, all available for viewing on their website, www.humaramovie.com. "We believe that the pool of talent that we're breeding here, at the Humara Movie camp, will become the next big thing in the movie business. We've worked with 120 filmmakers and innumerable actors over the last three years, and it is from here that we hope that the next generation of great filmmakers will emerge," says Vinay.
Humara Movie is now working on producing three new full length feature films.
