BANGALORE: Gold jewellery worth nearly Rs 13.50 lakh was recovered from a domestic help and her lover, from Mudigere taluk, by the Subramanyanagar police.

The theft came to light only after Kavita suddenly quit her job, leaving behind receipts of the gold she had sold.

Police officials had received a complaint from Jayalakshmi (69), from whom the jewellery was stolen over  the last two years. Using the money she got from selling the jewellery or pawning it, Kavitha’s (23) lover Manjunath alias Manju (27) was able to expand his photocopying business.

According to the Subramanyanagar police, Kavitha had been working for Jayalakshmi and her family for over six years. Considering that she was an orphan, the family had given her accommodation on the terrace of their home.
