Cooperate with BBMP in Waste Disposal: HC to IAF

Express News Service

BENGALURU: The High Court on Friday directed Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited to cover the segregated waste at Mavallipura within a week and construct a sidewall.

A special division bench headed by Justice N Kumar passed the order following a submission by Indian Air Force officers that due to the landfill, there is a lot of environment pollution and foul smell in the area.

Residents of Mavallipura, who were present during the hearing, showed samples of polluted water collected in their village. They also said that due to the accumulated waste, people are suffering from various diseases.

The bench directed BBMP to supply drinking water though tankers to Mavallipura and to provide every family with mosquitoes nets.

When the counsel for IAF said BBMP should seek their permission for the segregation unit, the bench observed, “You should first understand the condition of the people residing in Mavallipura. The lives of one lakh people are in danger. There are two solutions before this bench -- you either give permission to set up the unit or acquire all the land allotted for it. The court will pass an order accordingly.” The bench directed Ramky and BBMP to discuss with IAF authorities and scientifically dispose of waste. “You have to cooperate with them,” the bench observed.
