CHENNAI: Heads of CBSE schools, students and their parents will know where a school stands in relation to its counterparts, thanks to Saransh — the tool introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) — which provides for self-review and scope of improvement.
Based on the performance of students from Classes 9 to 12 in continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) and problem-solving assessments (PSA), the schools and their students will be rated at a scholastic and co-scholastic level. A comprehensive picture of Class 10 and Plus-Two performances since 2007 for the former and 2009 for the latter can be drawn as well. The metrics will be presented in the form of charts and graphs to facilitate easy understanding.
Initially, heads of schools will be provided with an affiliation ID and a password with which they can calculate the performance of their school, relative to others in the region, State and the country.
“Through this method a school’s performance and its position among similar schools will be known. This gives a subjectwise analysis too. We will be able to gauge which subjects we are good at and which ones we need to focus on to improve the average,” said Ajeeth Jain, senior principal, Bhavans Rajaji Vidyashram.
The parents will also be able to assess their wards’ performance through the years, said Suma Padmanabhan, Principal, Asan Memorial Higher Secondary School, who added that this being a new tool heads of schools needed to use it first and pass on the information about individual performances of the students.
She said that these ratings might provide credibility to the school, in addition to being a means of performance assessment. “For parents, the score of each school will help them choose where they want to admit their wards,” she said.
