Lit Festival to Honour URA

BANGALORE: The third edition of the Bangalore Literature Festival (BLF) is all set to be held between September 26 and 28. This year, the festival will be dedicated to Jnanpith awardee Prof UR Ananthamurthy, who died recently.

“Prof Ananthamurthy is very special to all of us and especially to BLF since he inaugurated the first edition of the festival. We have decided to dedicate this edition to him and various authors will pay tributes to him and his works,” said Vikram Sampath, co-founder, BLF. He was speaking at an event to announce the dates for the festival.This year, special focus will be on the North-East. It will also focus on women and gender issues and LGBT rights.

“The festival will also feature aboriginal writers from Australia who will be in conversation with Dalit writers and poets of India to discuss common issues of marginalization. The participating authors are Brenton McKenna, Marie Munkara, Dylan Coleman and Jeanine Leane among others,” said Sampath.

“This edition will feature nearly 150 authors and speakers, including several distinguished names like Girish Karnad, Arun Shourie, Leila Seth, Natwar Singh, Gulzar, Chandrashekhara Kambar, Sanjaya Baru, Ramachandra Guha, Jerry Pinto, Siddharth Dhanvant Shangvi, Arun Maira, Sundeep Bhutoria and others,” said Shinie Antony, co-founder.

The festival opens at 10am on the three days at Crowne Plaza, Velankani Park, Electronics City.

Entry is free and open to all via registration on www.bangaloreliteraturefestival.org and via Facebook and Twitter on #BlrLitFest. BMTC will run extra buses to Electronics City.
