BANGALORE: The state government on Friday submitted before the High Court that there are 53,133 children who remain out of schools and that it is taking all steps to ensure they get back to academics.
Of the 53,133 children, 30,945 are migrants and officials are checking their old addresses for leads on where the children reside now, the government counsel said. In a case of special concern, 374 children will be admitted to boarding schools, the counsel added.
According to information from the Education Department, there are 1.68 lakh school dropouts this year and till September 2, 99,000 of them were admitted to schools.
However, names of 12,338 children were repeated in the list and some are dead while there were 3,943 additions to the list.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice D H Waghela directed the state government to discuss with department officials and NGOs and prepare a report on what needs to be done to bring the children back to schools.

The bench also issued a notice to the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) and the BBMP to open day-care centres for children aged below six years at every construction site where more than 50 female workers are employed.
HC Seeks Report on Docs’ Protest
The government has been directed to furnish details on action taken against the doctor responsible for the death of a female patient in Sidlagatta last year.
It was alleged that the doctor did not attend to her as he was participating in a doctors’ protest.
Chief Justice D H Waghela passed the order while hearing a suo motu petition. Counsel representing the government submitted that a case has been booked against the doctor for murder without intention.
The bench also sought a report on action taken against the doctors who staged the protest.
