BANGALORE: A transgender died after she was thrown out of a running train near Malleswaram on Wednesday.
Identified as Mahadevi (22), she was speech-impaired, and used to beg on the Bangalore-Hubli Intercity Express. She had boarded the train at the City Railway Station at
1.30 pm. The train was about to reach the Malleswaram station when two youths shoved her out. Mahadevi fell on a parallel track and died on the spot, eyewitnesses said.
Passengers caught the two youths and thrashed them. They were planning to hand them over to the police, but the youths escaped when the train reached Tumkur.
A boy who sells tea on the train informed Mahadevi’s community, and they rushed to the spot. Railway police did not provide any further information about the incident.
A senior railway police officer said, “We heard about a body on the tracks and have registered a case. We are trying to ascertain if Mahadevi fell from the train or was pushed to death.”
The body has been sent to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem.
