BENGALURU: Congress candidate from Bengaluru constituency in the legislative council elections M Narayaswamy is in for a trouble for making Marenahalli gram panchayat members swear on God that they would vote for him in the polls to be held on December 27.
BJP leaders led by state BJP spokesman S Sureshkumar on Friday filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer demanding dismissal of Narayanaswamy’s candidature.
A section of electronic media had beamed the footage of Narayanaswamy making all members of the gram panchayats to swear that they would give their first preference vote to him in the election. “This is not only a clear case of violation of poll code but an illegal act too. CM Siddaramaiah himself has said what Narayanaswamy did was not right,” the BJP said in its petition.
Bengaluru has been witnessing a tough battle with Dayanand Reddy being in the fray as a rebel. Reddy was denied ticket despite being the sitting MLC reportedly on the insistence of Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
Dayanand is giving tough fight to the official candidate Narayanaswamy. On his part, the Minister is also leaving no stone unturned to make Dayanand bite the dust.
Case Registered
Bagalur police on Friday registered a case against M Narayanaswamy for allegedly violating election norms.
The complaint registered by Bengaluru north Tahsildhar Balappa Handigunda stated that the candidate on Thursday night asked Marenahalli gram panchayat members to swear that they would vote for the Congress in the upcoming MLC elections.
A case has also been registered against Gram Panchayat president Anjanappa and others.
Charges Against Narayanaswamy Baseless: Congress
Bengaluru: The ruling Congress party has refuted charges by the BJP that its candidate in Bengaluru Urban District local bodies constituency has violated any poll code of conduct. Reacting to the BJP leaders’ petition, KPCC General Secretary N Bosaraju said, “BJP leaders are making baseless charges, with a fear that they will lose the seat.” He dismissed BJP leader Suresh Kumar’s demand that the Congress candidate be disqualified. “There is no substance in their allegations hurled against the Congress candidate,” he said.
