Machines to Convert Waste into Compost

Express News Service

BENGALURU: For the first time, Aero India 2015 will have fully automatic composting machines in place, which will convert all the food waste generated into compost.

This has come as a welcome move by the organisers, as every time the biennial event takes place, huge amount of waste is generated from the three food courts which cater to large crowds each day, leaving a mess.

A city-based firm - Reddo Natura Private Limited - has bagged the contract to set up three such machines for each of the three food courts.

Director of the company Abhishek Gupta said that the machines built in a way that they can convert food waste into compost in a matter of just 24 hours. “Irrespective of the waste generated, it is known that around 80-90 per cent of its volume is reduced in a period of 24 hours. The residue that is remaining is compost. Hence, the waste generated can be recycled fully,” he said.

The machine is fully automatic. The mixer ensures that the waste is evenly distributed, while the heater ensures the right temperature for the waste to be converted into compost. An air inlet and exhaust system helps to keep the odour at a minimum. “It requires almost no human intervention. It ensures that wet waste from 300 houses/1,200 people can be converted into compost fast.”
