St Antony's Girls' Hr Secondary School Celebrates Pongal

CHENNAI: Students of St Antony’s Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Mandaveli celebrated Pongal in a traditional way.

Gandhi, senior advocate, Madras High Court, presided over the celebration and installed the portrait of poet Subramania Bharathiyar. Mahalingam, professor and head of the Tamil Department, Presidency College; Madhivanan, secretary of the Bharathiyar Sangam, and Shobana, treasurer of the Bharathiyar Sangam were the special invitees.

The cultural programme comprised nattupura kalaigal such as kummi, kolattam, silambattam and thappattam. Gandhi appreciated the effort made by the school to uphold Tamil Nadu’s tradition and culture.

A competition based on poems by Bharathiyar was held and the winners were awarded prizes. Students enjoyed a game of uri adithal. Pongal prepared by headmistress Rev Sr Jesintha Victoria and staff members was served to the students.
