Notice to Kolar DC Over Plot

Express News Service

BENGALURU: The High Court on Friday issued a notice to the state government, the deputy commissioner of Kolar and the Srinivasapura town administration in connection with a public interest litigation filed against the granting of a plot.

The plot, opposite a school, college, hostel and temple, was given on an annual rent of `5,000 for a sports and cultural club for a period of 29 years.

In the petition, N R Chinnappa Reddy and others allege that the 306 x 148-ft land belonging to the Horticulture Department has been leased to the local sports and cultural association without permission from the state government.

In response to this, the division bench of acting Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna issued the notice to respondents.

The petitioners alleged that the Srinivasapura Sports and Cultural Association has plans to establish a club where they plan to open a bar and restaurant and provide space for card-playing. This land is inside a 100-feet radius of a boys’ hostel, a girls’ college and a temple.

Therefore, the bar licence cannot be granted, they contended.
