Ghazal legend Ghulam Ali is performing here this Saturday, and the organisers are calling it his last concert in the city.

Trained in the Patiala gharana, the Pakistani singer brings a wealth of ideas from Hindustani classical music into his ghazal compositions.

Ghulam Ali has performed earlier in Bengaluru, and this time, the proceeds of his concert go to the Kashmir Relief Fund, according to the hosts.

Even those not familiar with his large body of work may have heard popular ghazals like Chupke Chupke Raat Din, Yeh Dil Yeh Pagal Dil Mera, Hungama Hai Kyun Barpa, and Baharon Ko Chaman Yaad Aaa Gaya Hai.

City Express brings you a translation ( by S R Ramakrishna) of one of his most loved compositions, Phir Savan Rut Ki Pavan Chali by Nasir Kazmi, to mark his visit to the city.

Thinking of you

The spring breeze blew again, bringing thoughts of you.

The leaves fell like anklets again, bringing thoughts of you.

The cranes called again from a sea of green grass. The season of yellow flowers came, bringing thoughts of you.

A crow cawed again in my lonely courtyard.

Drops of nectar rained again, bringing thoughts of you.

I screamed and wept at first, then began laughing again.

Clouds thundered, lightning streaked, bringing thoughts of you.

I spent all day lost in my mundane routine.

The sun left the walls, bringing thoughts of you.
