Express News Service

BENGALURU: While hiring sentiments were upbeat with sectors like ITES, auto and insurance leading the charge, the overall hiring activity was down by 18 per cent.

The Naukri Job Speak Index for Bengaluru has indicated a fall in the hiring activity this July compared to the same time last year.

Sectors like ITES, auto and insurance saw an increase of 46, 17 and 8 per cent respectively in their hiring levels in the same time period. The demand for professionals in corporate planning or consulting services saw an increase of 17 per cent during the said period.

V Suresh, Chief Sales Officer, Naukri.com, said, “Post an impressive 22 per cent year-over-year growth in June 2016, though the index for July shows muted growth of just 3 per cent, good news is the slow and steady growth in the non-IT sectors namely auto, hospitality, education and healthcare to name a few. Looks like this trend will continue and we can expect the index to move north in the coming months.”

While ITES saw a hiring growth of 46 per cent, IT-software saw a dip of 21 per cent over the year. Auto and insurance also saw hiring going upwards by 17 per cent and 8 per cent respectively in the same time period.

Meanwhile, the job index spelt good news for marketing/advertising/PR professionals with the sector continuing to recruit experienced talent. The demand for professionals in the sector saw an increase of 7 per cent in July compared to last July.

On the other hand, sectors like BFSI and pharma remained stagnant respectively over the year. However, hiring of IT-software and IT-hardware professionals saw a downward trend with the index moving down 14 per cent and 15 per cent respectively in the same period.
