BENGALURU: A 48-year-old mason was killed on the spot and his friend was severely injured when a speeding Tempo Traveller fell on their two-wheeler after crashing into the median on the busy Sumanahalli flyover on Magadi Road on Sunday.
Traffic was thrown out of gear for a while at Sumnahalli junction, Kottigepalya and Magadi Road and was cleared only after the vehicle was lifted with the help of a crane.
The deceased has been identified as Mahadevaiah, a resident of Hongasandra in Madiwala. The injured is Muniswamy alias Nagaraju (31), a resident of Electronics City.
A police source said that the accident occurred around 12.30 pm when Mahadevaiah and Nagaraju were returning to the city from Kunigal on the former’s Honda Activa scooter.
The driver of the Tempo Traveller that was coming from Nagarabhavi, was allegedly over the speed limit and tried to overtake a car. He rammed into the car and due to the force, the Tempo Traveller crashed into a median and toppled on to the opposite lane. It fell on the scooter and Mahadevaiah and the pillion rider were crushed under the vehicle.
The Tempo Traveller driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Kamakshipalya traffic police are looking out for the accused. Three vehicles were damaged in the mishap.

February 9: A 27-year-old MBA student, D N Vinod, was killed on the spot when a speeding lorry rammed into his two-wheeler and ran over him on the busy Sirsi Circle flyover in K R Market.
December 7, 2015: Forty-five-year-old Lal Bahadur was killed on the spot and a couple sustained injuries after a speeding cab crashed into another car and later hit the median on a flyover on Airport Road in Jakkur near Yelahanka.
September 28, 2014: Three software engineers were killed after their speeding car crashed into the parapet wall of the flyover in Electronics City. Aneesh Verghese (26), Ram Vaidyanathan (30) and Rajeevan Charles (35) were killed on the spot. They were heading to work when the mishap was occurred.
May 19, 2013: A joy ride turned tragic when an overspeeding Maruti Zen car toppled after ramming into the road divider on Mahadevapura flyover near Nelamangala. Two people were killed on the spot while two others were critically injured. They were returning from Kunigal after attending a party. The car fell from a height of 20 feet.
March 20, 2012 : A 22-year-old student, Nikhil Narayan, who was riding a bike died in an accident on the Hebbal flyover. Nikhil, a native of Kerala, was a final-year student of M S Ramaiah College and his friend Sagar Naidu (25), who was riding pillion, was seriously injured.
