BENGALURU: One of the 150 dogs rescued from the animal-testing laboratory recently has gone missing because of the negligence of the family that adopted him.
Four-year-old beagle Gunda was adopted three weeks ago by a family living on Nagahalli Main Road. He was last spotted on Monday afternoon.
Chinthana Gopinath, a volunteer, says the door and the main gate of the house had been left open.
He ran out of the house around 12.30 pm but the family reported him missing to CUPA only at 8.30 pm.
“The first few hours are very critical. They informed us late,” she says. “Hence, the success rate is low.”
But the animal welfare group has launched an extensive search operation. Volunteers are trying to figure out his whereabouts. They looked for him even on the Ring Road. They have been putting up posters near the Hebbal flyover, where he was last spotted, promising a reward of `20,000 to anyone who spots him. The money will be collected and contributed by the volunteers.
Auto drivers in the locality have also come forward to help.
“They have put up posters at the back of their rickshaws,” she says. “They live around there and have said they will keep their eyes and ears open.”
They are also said to have spotted him running in the afternoon there. But the family is not being cooperative. They haven’t been part of any search operations.
“They are negligent. We tell the families to keep their doors closed. These dogs are not used to living in a house. They might panick even hearing the sound of a cooker whistle and run.”
Gunda is wearing a red collar with metal links. Chinthana says, “He must have either been picked up by someone as he is a beautiful pedigree dog or he might gone to another neighbourhood.”
