Two cops suspended for abusing reporter

BENGALURU: Two policemen were suspended after they allegedly abused and hit a newspaper reporter here on Friday. 


The incident took place around 1.50 pm on Banaswadi Main Road when the reporter of an English newspaper was heading to his office. Some people were standing near a drain watching some burning objects. The reporter went thereto see what was happening started taking photographs. 


A Hoysala patrol jeep came by and police constable Balaji threatened the reporter to not to take photos. When the reporter started to move away, Balaji allegedly abused him in foul language and hit him with a cane. Later, he along with the driver took him to the jeep where Banaswadi sub-inspector Sheela was seated. 


The police took him in the vehicle for a few metres. Sensing that their mistake would be exposed they requested him not to reveal about the incident to anyone. When the reporter said  he would file a complaint, they dropped him in the middle of the road and went away. 
The reporter then filed a complaint with DCP (East) Sateesh Kumar.


City Police commissioner N S Megharikh who got to know about the incident suspended Balaji and the Hoysala driver. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against Sheela and other police officials who were part of the incident.
