BENGALURU: Providing Aadhaar number has been made mandatory for most competitive examinations for seats in undergraduate professional courses for the academic year 2017-18.

Organisers of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the nation have issued a notification making Aadhaar number mandatory for students appearing for JEE Main-2017. Pre-university colleges across the state have informed about this to parents and students aspiring to appear for the exam.

The communication insists that students keep a valid Aadhaar card number and other details ready. It reads: “As per the JEE Main-2017 admission notification, every applicant must have a valid Aadhaar number and the details must match those in the UIDAI database as well as school records. In case there is a mismatch, the candidates should immediately get it corrected in Aadhaar data or school records.”

According to college authorities, in case there is a mismatch in between the data with UIDAI and the Aadhaar number, chances of the application getting rejected will be high. “We advise students to verify their Aadhaar details and correct any errors,” said the principal of a city-based PU college.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is also considering making Aadhaar mandatory for students who will appear for the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2017. KEA sources told Express that they are waiting for the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) schedule to be out and that KEA will start process for CET 2017 once the schedule is available.
