BENGALURU: A six-year-old boy died due to alleged overdose of anaesthesia at a private hospital in HSR Layout on Friday. The parents have filed a case against the doctor of Annayya Health Care who was treating their son. A similar incident had taken place in the same hospital in February 2013, when a three-year-old boy had died.
The deceased has been identified as Santhosh, son of Nithyananda and Maheshwari. They are natives of Tamil Nadu and residents of Ejipura in Koramangala.
Speaking to New Indian Express, Nithyananda, who runs a catering business, said that Santhosh had breathing problems and he had been taken to the hospital earlier as well. The doctors had prescribed medication for three months then. Recently, Santhosh complained about his breathing again and the doctors advised that a minor operation was necessary.
Dr Dhanaraj had given an appointment on Saturday for the operation, but on Friday, Nithyanand was informed that the operation had been advanced and was asked to bring Santhosh on Friday.
Santhosh was taken to the hospital around 8.30 am and the doctors started the operation at around 12.30 pm. Around 4.30 pm, the parents were informed that the operation was a success and the boy would be shifted to the ward at around 6 pm. However, at 5.30 pm, Dr Dhanaraj informed the parents that Santhosh's pulse was weak and he had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Then he referred the boy to Narayana Hrudayalaya. When Santhosh was about to be taken to Narayana Hrudayalaya, doctors then asked to take him to St John's hospital immediately. The doctors in St John's hospital declared Santhosh brought dead.
