BENGALURU: A manager of a popular cafe chain committed suicide on Monday allegedly upset over not being promoted. He hanged himself at a friend’s house in Mahadevapura. Police said he left behind a suicide note alleging that authorities of the company he worked for were responsible for his death. He also mentioned in his note that his organs should be donated.

The deceased has been identified as Pramod, a native of Chikkamangaluru, who worked at a Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) outlet in Mahadevapura.Police said Pramod was allegedly upset over work pressure and not being promoted. Based on the suicide note, a case of abetment has been registered.In the suicide note, he mentions that he was transferred from another outlet of CCD to the one in Mahadevapura where he worked as a manager. During the transfer, he was promised a promotion. But the management allegedly threatened to withhold his salary if he failed to meet sales targets. Pramod alleged that authorities of Cafe Coffee Day were responsible for his death.

In the note, he also requested the owner of CCD to scrap ‘Sales Day’ which was putting pressure on employees. He also demanded financial support for his family and children.  
A police officer said the investigation is under progress and they are yet to take statements of senior officials of CCD.A press release issued by Cafe Coffee Day stated, “In this moment of grief, we stand by his family and are extending our full support to them. We are offering full cooperation to the authorities”.
