BENGALURU: Amid rumours of fake `10 coins doing the rounds in the city, many BMTC passengers complain that conductors are refusing to accept these coins. There are also complaints that even counters at BMTC terminals don’t accept these coins.
Nearly 30 passengers have complained so far on BMTC’s Twitter page against conductors rejecting `10 coins.
Deepak Lakshmanarao, a commuter, tweeted, “BMTC conductor refuses to take Rs 10 coin saying his depot manager has asked me (to) do so”.
Ashutosh, a regular passenger, wrote, “Bus conductors of BMTC are not accepting 10 rupee coin, then how can we expect (the same) with hawkers in local market?”.
In a response to these tweets, BMTC said `10 coins are accepted in buses and asked public to share details if a conductor refuses to accept `10 coin. BMTC is yet to issue a statement on complaints of coins being rejected in buses.
A BMTC conductor said, “We are already facing shortage of coins. Most conductors insist on `10 note as many passengers are not willing to accept `10 coins when we give back the balance. They believe the `10 coins are fake.”
Reserve Bank of India has clarified that `10 coins are valid, but a few shopkeepers and auto, taxi drivers in the city continue to reject them.
