BENGALURU: A senior police officer along with a constable allegedly assaulted the owner and customers of a hotel which was open beyond the prescribed hours on Dinnur Main Road in RT Nagar on Wednesday.

The video of the assault went viral on social media and was also aired on some news channels. The hotel’s owner approached the City Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar and filed a complaint. It is said that ACP, JC Nagar sub-division, Manjunath Babu along with a constable had given notice to Rajiv Shetty, owner of ‘Shetty Lunch Home.’ But Shetty ignored the notice and used to keep the hotel open until late nights.

Enraged, the police officer went to the hotel on Wednesday and thrashed Shetty while the constable hit two of the customers who were at the hotel.

The entire scene was captured in a CCTV camera. When the constable noticed the camera, he switched off the lights within a few minutes. The police said they had forced all hotels to close as a robbery and other  untoward incidents had taken place in the locality of late. So far, no action has been taken against the officers.
