Cubbon Park rape case: Two security guards get life term

BENGALURU:Two security guards, who raped a 30-year-old woman inside Cubbon Park in November 2015, have been sentenced to life by a city court on Monday.

Raju Medhi (28) and Balin Das (38), both hailing from Assam, are the convicted persons. On November 11, 2015, they had raped a 30-year-old engineering graduate, who had come to the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association in Cubbon Park to enquire about coaching.

She had come in the night and while returning, she was searching for the exit from the park. Meanwhile, both the guards assured her to take her outside and instead took her to a secluded place inside the park and raped her.

Police inspector of Cubbon Park station, Balakrishna C, had investigated the case and had submitted the chargesheet to the court. The 54th City Civil & Sessions Judge M Lathakumari held both the accused guilty of the offence and sentenced them to undergo life imprisonment.

Besides, the duo was ordered to pay a penalty of `25,000 each. Public Prosecutor Chinnavenkataramanappa had argued on behalf of the prosecution.
