Bangalore University, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences finally get full-time V-Cs

BENGALURU: After a long wait, Bangalore University and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru have finally got regular vice-chancellors. On Tuesday, the  governor and chancellor of universities, Vajubhai Vala issued an order appointing Prof K R Venugopal, former principal of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) as vice-chancellor of Bangalore University and Dr Sachidanand, the current director, department  of medical education, as vice-chancellor of RGUHS.

Prof Ishwar Bhat has been appointed as the new V-C of Karnataka State Law University. The post of V-C of Bangalore University was vacant since February 6, 2017 after the term of Dr B Thimmegowda ended. In the last one-and-a-half years, the university has seen five in-charge V-Cs.

In case of  RGUHS, the V-C’s post was vacant since July 14, 2017 after the completion of Dr KS Ravindranath’s term as vice-chancellor. Since then, Dr M K Ramesh, registrar-evaluation of the university, was posted as in-charge V-C. Prof K R Venugopal assumed charge as the new V-C of Bangalore University on Tuesday itself. Dr Sachidanand is yet to be relieved from the existing responsibility as director, medical education department.

After taking charge, Venugopal said, “I will focus more towards quality development at the university and will work in co-operation with the other two universities which are trifurcated from Bangalore University.”
