BENGALURU: The decomposed body of a married woman, aged around 30 years, who had been strangulated using a dupatta, was found dumped inside a plastic drum packed with clothes at the Yesvantpur railway station on Wednesday. The crime may have occurred nine days ago, but came to light now. With the CCTV not working at this station for four days from December 22, everyone is in the dark now as to when the crime happened and who placed the blue drum there.

According to an official release by the Government Railway Police (GRP), a sweeper working on Platform One rushed to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) post around 9.30 am and alerted them about foul smell emanating from a drum.

“RPF and GRP cops rushed to the spot and opened the drum. The lid of the bin was tightly sealed with cellophane tapes. We found numerous clothes tightly packed with the decomposed body of a woman inside. It appears that she had been strangulated with a dupatta,” the release said.

Pictures released by cops show the dupatta still around her neck. A GRP source said, “We reviewed the CCTV footage and found out that the drum figured in our footage we were able to get on December 26.

The CCTV was not working from December 22 to 26 (up to 8 pm). The footage we recovered post 8 pm had the drum on PF One. It is not railway property, but brought from outside. Since the drum has been tightly packed with clothes, the odour from the decomposed body has taken some time to be felt outside.” Investigations are on to find the identity of the woman.
