BENGALURU: A massive fire broke out at a warehouse used for the storage of lubricants in the outskirts of the city on Tuesday morning around 3.15 am.

It took nearly 12 hours to douse the fire for a fire force team comprising over 100 personnel.

There are no casualties. Short circuit is being suspected as the cause behind the fire. The loss to the warehouse is estimated to be over Rs 30 crore, according to sources.

The warehouse storing lubricants of Shell, a multinational petrochemical firm, is located at Adakamaranahalli near the Nelamangala RTO. Onlookers said massive plumes of smoke were visible from a distance of almost five kilometers.

After the fire control room was alerted about the accident around 3.35 am, over 11 fire engines from Nelamangala, Peenya, Jalahalli, Yeshwanthapura, Tumakuru, Banaswadi, Jnanabharathi, Chamarajpet, Dairy Circle and other nearby fire stations were used to douse the fire.

The fire was brought under control around 2 pm. The firemen ensured that the fire did not spread to the neighbouring buildings.

The warehouse, spread over 35,000 square feet, is owned by one Krishnappa whose father-in-law was a former minister. Shell confirmed that the facility, which is not owned or operated by the company, is used for the storage of its lubricant products. As per preliminary investigations nobody was inside the godown.
