BENGALURU: The Karnataka government’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) dialysis programme received a boost with the introduction of an AI-enabled monitoring system aimed at improving patient safety and treatment quality. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said the initiative would enhance clinical oversight and bring public dialysis services on par with private healthcare standards.

The system, introduced by NephroPlus at KC General Hospital in Bengaluru, enables real-time tracking of critical dialysis parameters such as blood pressure, fluid removal and electrolyte balance. Continuous monitoring is expected to improve treatment outcomes and reduce risks during dialysis sessions.

Currently operational across seven dialysis centres, the platform tracks 28 parameters, including patient care, safety, bed availability, staff alertness, emergency preparedness, infection control, hygiene and operational efficiency. It also provides a digital governance framework, allowing administrators and clinical teams to assess performance and ensure consistent quality of care.

Officials said the AI-based platform replaces periodic audits with round-the-clock monitoring, making the system more transparent, data-driven and less dependent on manual intervention. The technology currently operates with an accuracy of 85-95 per cent, with further refinements under way.

Speaking at the launch, NephroPlus CEO Rohit Singh said continuous monitoring is crucial in dialysis care and the new system would help maintain uniform standards across centres while ensuring safer treatment for patients.

Officials highlighted that the initiative strengthens clinical governance under the PPP model and demonstrates that public dialysis services can achieve quality benchmarks comparable to private providers.
