32-year-old fisherman dies after country boat capsizes in Choudwar wetland

The victim fell into the water while disentangling a fishing net in Chhatisha Pata, locals said

CUTTACK: A 32-year-old fisherman died by drowning on Friday after his country boat capsized in the Chhatisha Pata, a wetland located within Choudwar police limits here.

The deceased has been identified as Kartik Mallik of Chasapada under Banipada gram panchayat. As per locals, when Kartik cast his fishing net in the water body, a part of it got entangled to the boat. The 32-year-old tried to disentangle the net but by that time the boat capsized and he drowned.

When he did not return home for a long time, his family members launched a frantic search and retrieved Mallik’s body from the water body. Police registered an unnatural death case and sent the body for postmortem.
