CHENNAI: Baskaran Adhiban scaled a new high on Sunday by winning the National Premier Chess Championship in Mumbai.

The Chennaiite who has been making rapid progress secured the National title with a victory over 2008 world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta in the 12th round. He has so far secured 9.5 points in 12 rounds. The final round will be played tomorrow.

Incidentally, Adhiban retained the National B title in Kolkata, which is the qualifying event for Nationals. After missing a GM norm in the Kolkata International this year he earned his 1st GM norm in the ongoing Nationals.
