THE evening at Taj Coromandel was a celebration of womanhood. Some of the city’s most well-known women were  honoured by the Ritz magazine for achievement in their respective fields. The Ritz awards 2009 saw women between the age of 18 and 40 walk away with awards for not just their achievements but for making a difference and proving that women too are capable of fulfilling their dreams despite hardships.

The Ritz award was presented to 15 women including Soundarya Rajinikanth, Shruti Haasan, Khushboo, Srinidhi Chidambaram, Madhuvanti Arun, Tishani Doshi, Rehane, actor Sneha, entrepreneur Lavanya Nalli, Dr Priya Selvaraj, Dr Shalini, winner of alternate Nobel Prize Krishnammal Jagannathan, orator Benozephin, carrom champion Ilavazhagi and squash player Deepika Pallikal among others.

It was a feast for the eyes for many, watching women achievers on-stage, their speeches interesting and inspiring. Besides the many clichéd votes of thanks, actor Khusbhoo urged women to fight against the injustice citing an example of an eight year old kid who was married off to a frog in North India.

The event that was replete with glitz, glamour and humour, courtesy Craig and Cary concluded on a note that the women of the present generation have to fight for a better tomorrow.
