Anna Nagar Tower Park to get facelift

Chennai Mayor Subramanian said that the Anna Nagar park, would get an open-air theatre, skating ground and a playground.

CHENNAI: As part of City Corporation’s ‘Park renovation’ scheme, aimed at increasing the greenery and usefulness of parks in the city, Mayor M Subramanian on Saturday inaugurated the renovation works at Dr Visvesarayya Tower Park in Anna Nagar. It is estimated to cost Rs 6.20 crore.

The Mayor along with Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni went around the premises to inspect civil works including the open-air theatre and modern toilet.

Later speaking to reporters, Subramanian said, “A widerange of park renovation projects are being undertaken to beautify Chennai following the orders from the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin.” Subramanian said the Tower Park, spread over 15.35 acre of prime land in Anna Nagar, would have an open-air theatre, and skating ground, children’s play area and playground.

The works of the park would be completed by August when it would be thrown open to the public for daily use. It could also become a major destination for tourists, Mayor added.
