CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K V Thangkabalu tripped and fell as he was coming down the stairs after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Marina beach on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi on Friday, creating a flutter among the crowd of party workers who had accompanied him.

The Congress leader, who sprained his left leg , has been advised complete rest for two days.

All his tour programmes during this period have been cancelled.

Thamodaran, TNCC headquarters secretary, who was with Thangkabalu when the incident took place, said: “He could not see the platform and the steps properly because the place was overcrowded with Congress leaders.
