CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu was acting swiftly to combat the impacts that climate change, claimed Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘Five Tens Lights Out’ campaign organised by Exnora international here on Sunday, Stalin said that the pollution control board and the forest department were acting in tandem to protect the State from the adverse impacts of climate change.
The campaign was organised to sensitise people about the need to cut energy consumption in order to combat climate change. The people who had assembled at Anna University for the event, switched off all their electronic appliances for ten minutes between 10 pm and 10.10 pm.
The lights at Raj Bhavan were also put off at 10 pm for 10 minutes to stress the need for spreading awareness of global warming and its alarming effects, as per the orders of Governor Surjit Singh Barnala.
The Governor said that it was high time that awareness was created among the public of their role in protecting the environment, in reduction of carbon foot prints and fighting global warming.
