CHENNAI: Sun Network chairman and managing director Kalanidhi Maran can heave a sigh of relief as two cheating cases against Sun Pictures, with regard to which he was asked to appear before the K K Nagar police for inquiry, were quashed by the Madras High Court on Wednesday.

But, according to a senior police officer, three more plaints of cheating against COO of Sun Pictures W Hansraj Saxena are pending with the police. “We are investigating the bank transaction records of Sun group and scrutinising other documents relating to financial dealings. Only after a thorough probe would we be able to say if Maran will have to be questioned or not,” the officer said. The two cheating cases that were quashed by the court were filed by film distributors T S Selvaraj and Shanmugavelu against Saxena with the K K Nagar police. Though Saxena and producer Ayappan were arrested on July 3, the distributors had filed pleas on Tuesday at the court, stating they wanted to withdraw their plaints.  T D Raja, producer of Vallakottai, in his complaint on July 15, had said that Sun TV cheated him of `55 lakh after they purchased the satellite rights to the film. The complaint in Kodambakkam was filed by  producer Hitesh Jhabak on July 11, where he claimed that Sun pictures cheated him of `3.37 crore on purchasing the rights of the film Mappillai.
