CHENNAI: The annual fund-raising concert ‘Sangarsh’ (meaning struggle) conducted by the Rotaract Club of College of Engineering, Guindy has now traversed a decade. According to the organ isers, Sangarsh has successfully raised an elephantine amount of `25 lakh over the past years and has helped several organisations and societies.

 This year, Sangarsh took up two projects — a medical and an educational system project. It reconstructed classrooms, improved the sanitation facilities and also facilitated good drinking water. Apart from this, it has promised to fund Dr.Mani Heart Foundation, a non-profit organisation which funds life-saving heart surgeries for children born with congenital heart defects.

 Sangarsh 2012 started at 5.15 pm in the Music Academy, Alwarpet. The concert saw big shots such as Rehana Rahman, actor Krishna, Suma Harris Jayaraj, Madhan Karki and Dr Mani. The vice chancellor of Anna University, Dr.P.Mannar Jawahar and dean of CEG, Dr M Sekar read out the citations of the two projects and facilitated the event.

The concert begun with a skit showcased by the spartanz team of CEG which was appreciated by the audience. They were then entertained  by young and dynamic singers Ranjith, Rita, Tipu, Shwetha Mohan, Nikhil Mathew, Alaap Raju, Priya Himesh, Solar Sai and Tanjai Selvi. The band which bolstered them with the background music was STACCATO.

Next came the audio-visual clips of eminent personalities such as AR Rahman, Kamal Haasan and  Simbu, supporting the cause and also appealing others to do the same. Mementoes of Sangarsh were given away by the rotaracters of CEG to the chief guests and the singers for their time and talent.
