CHENNAI: The 1965 batch of Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Egmore, had their alumni meet on Saturday night in Chennai. Called the DB 65 batch, it had 63 students and it was the second batch to pass out of XII standard from the school. Though most of the students of this batch are in their 60s now, they became children again when they all gathered together.
Recalling the memories, actor YG Mahendra, who also belongs to the same batch, said, “I got state 3rd rank in my XII standard, but I was the most mischievous boy of the class 1965. I also used to organise dramas right from school.” Talking about the current generation’s lifestyle, he said, “Social life was something we didn’t want to miss. People nowadays do not realise the values of friendship and it has become more like a fast food now. But the real friendship can’t end just with Facebook but by face-looking which we do now. We are all thankful to our school at all times, who taught us the real values of life.”
Leela Ram, Advisor, Rane Group, said, “The ultimate thing of this get together is, we all prefer coming in couples always. We started this get together from 1966 and we were attending the meet as bachelors initially. Then we came with our wives and then with our children and finally now with our grand children. Even our friends who live abroad join us at least once a year for this get together”.
Arun Thambuswamy said, “Our school days were the most memorable time we spent. I would like to mention some of the teachers like Principal Fr Mallon, Selvadurai, Lourdu Raj, Ramachandran who taught us the disciplinary values of life. We are really thankful to them at this juncture”.
The DB 1965 batch arranges their alumni meet about 8 to 9 times a year. In its next meet to be held on April 15, YG Mahendra will be conferred with a Lifetime Achievement Award, awarded by Karthik Finance.
