Man caught trying to steal cash from bike

A man from Andhra Pradesh who tried to steal cash from a bike was caught by the public on Barnaby Road here on Friday and was handed over to the police.

Police said Vinod, a businessman from Kilpauk, had gone to pick up his daughter from Kola Saraswathi Vaishnav  Senior Secondary School on Barnaby Road. Around 11.20 am, he came out of the school with his daughter and saw a man trying to decamp with the cash of `45,000 kept in the glove cabinet. As Vinod raised an alarm, passers-by caught the mand and handed him over to the Kilpauk Police.

During investigations, the man, who identified himself as Venkatesh, (42) confessed to having stolen from other vehicles in a similar fashion. He was remanded to judicial custody. A total of `1.73 lakh was recovered from him.
