Vaigaichelvan named new Chief Whip

The State government on Sunday named Aruppukottai MLA Vaigaichelvan as the new Chief Whip. Vaigaichelvan, a first-time MLA, takes over from party veteran R Mohan, who was inducted into the State cabinet on Saturday, in the latest reshuffle.

Vaigaichelvan, fighting his first ever election, was among the giant killers in the Assembly elections held in 2011. He beat former DMK minister K K S S R Ramachandran by a margin of over 10,000 votes in the race for the Aruppukottai seat.

Vaigaichelvan has been serving as the secretary of the AIADMK’s Ilaignar Pasarai from April 2011, after a 10 year service as the party’s joint secretary.

Vaigaichelvan has BA and MA degrees in Tamil Literature from Pachaiyappa’s College, apart from BL, D Litt and PhD degrees. He has written 14 books, of poems, short stories and novels apart from a commentary on the Thirukkural, which was released by AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
